The THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System) is one of the main US missile defense systems. It is described as being capable of intercepting ballistic missiles and drones within a range of 150 to 200 km, and at an altitude that can extend beyond the Earth’s atmosphere. It can protect a larger area than the Patriot system. The warhead of its missiles does not contain explosives but uses kinetic energy to destroy missiles by striking them at high speed.
