“We can be detained… we are putting our lives at risk.” For two weeks now, AFP’s teams across the region and around the world have been reporting on the war in the Middle East. As one of the few media organisations with a bureau in Tehran, AFP relies primarily on its journalists in the field to gather information that authorities do not always wish to share. At headquarters and global hub bureaus, dedicated teams tirelessly track and verify videos posted on social media to help report on the situation. “Being on the ground, even when it’s difficult in a place like Iran, brings enormous value,” says Global News Director Phil Chetwynd.
