Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was in Bardufoss, Norway on Friday to watch NATO military exercises with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Afterwards, Carney held a joint press conference with the leaders.

Carney said the U.S. can be trusted with security in the north because the defence systems in the Canadian North and the High Arctic are "fundamentally integrated" and there’s a "level of trust for the system."

He added that Canada was also taking "more control" and "responsibility" for the defence of the Arctic with "our closest allies" including Germany and Norway.
