Wang Shang is a Chinese national from the landlocked central province of Henan who works on a foreign ship used to transport liquefied petroleum gas sourced from the energy-rich region.
His vessel has been unable to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, blocked for nearly two weeks after US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
Around 20,000 seafarers are stuck in the Gulf because of the Middle East war, according to the UN’s International Maritime Organization.
