U.S. President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump participated in a greeting with King Charles III and Queen Camilla at the White House on Tuesday. 

The state visit, by far the most high-profile and consequential of Charles’ reign, marks the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Declaration of Independence from British rule and is the first by a British monarch to the country in two decades. Charles’ multi-day visit also includes a White House state dinner and a speech to Congress. 

The royals will also visit the Sept. 11 memorial in New York City and attend a 250th birthday party in Virginia.
