This week, Germany is set to take another step towards strengthening its military in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The government is expected to agree on a model for reintroducing military service as part of plans to expand its armed forces – the Bundeswehr – which currently stands at around 180,000 active service personnel. The move comes amid a broader modernization drive backed by major new investment.
