Australian state signs country’s first Indigenous treaty | DW News

From DW News.

Australia’s Victoria state has signed the country’s first treaty with Indigenous people. It establishes a First People Council to advise the state government, giving Indigenous communities more say in decisions that affect their lives. The state-level initiative comes as a major step towards equality, after a 2023 national referendum, that rejected a constitutional Indigenous advisory board by 60% of voters.
