Clash over fossil fuels threatens COP30 resolution in Brazil

From DW News.

A battle over fossil fuels is threatening to sink the UN climate summit in Brazil. Negotiators at COP30 have deadlocked over a proposal to phase out fossil fuels. The talks went into overtime as delegates worked through the night to find a compromise that would allow the summit to issue a final communique. Host Brazil had pushed for a so-called roadmap to end the use of fossil fuels but it was removed from the text under pressure from a group of more than 80 countries including oil producers Saudi Arabia and Russia. The phaseout was a key demand by some of the countries most affected by climate change.
