Supporters of the plaintiff in a landmark social media trial cried, hugged and celebrated after California jurors found Meta and YouTube negligent in the design or operation of their platforms.

The jury also found that the negligence was a substantial factor in causing harm to a 20-year-old woman who says her childhood use of social media led to addiction and worsened her mental health struggles.
