Canada’s latest employment numbers show the worst monthly job losses in the past four years. The national employment rate rose to 6.7 per cent in February – a 0.2-per cent increase from the month prior.
“This isn’t just one bad month, employment is essentially unchanged since September,” TD Bank economist Maria Solovieva said. “We now have the conflict in the Middle East and it is pushing oil prices higher which will add cost to businesses and consumers.”
As Jillian Piper reports, growing global volatility could make the situation worse by boosting inflation.
