Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre went after Prime Minister Mark Carney and his Liberal government on their immigration policies on Wednesday during question period.

After Canada’s Auditor General, Karen Hogan, announced on Tuesday that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) failed to investigate most of the 153,000 international students who had been flagged for possible non-compliance under study permit conditions in 2023 and 2024.

“We are taking control of the immigration system — asylum seekers down by a third, foreign students down by 60 per cent, temporary foreign workers down by 50 per cent… we are investigating 100 per cent of fraud cases since this new government came to office. We have the system under control,” Carney replied.
