F-35 vs Gripen: Canada still reviewing which fighter jet to buy, McGuinty says

From Global News.

On Friday at the Halifax Security Forum, Minister of National Defence David McGuinty confirmed that the F-35 acquisition project was still under review despite ongoing trade tensions with the U.S.

“It is one that is going to take time… We’re going to get this right. This is a major acquisition for Canada. And, this is something that I have stated unequivocally on many occasions before,” the defence minister said.

Days earlier, Minister of Industry Mélanie Joly expressed Canada’s interest in an offer to purchase and assemble Saab’s Gripen fighter jets in Canada when Swedish Royals visited the country to sign a strategic partnership. This potential deal could create roughly 10,000 domestic jobs, according to Joly.
