Evan Thompson, principal director of Jamaica’s meteorological service, said Tuesday morning that rainfall and wind gusts have started in parts of the country as Hurricane Melissa moves closer. Thompson, who warned of ‘catastrophic’ damage, said the storm is expected to make landfall as a Category 5 hurricane.
