From Global News.
On Thursday, Taiwan President Lai Ching-te showed support for Japan in a Facebook post depicting him eating Japanese-sourced sushi. This comes after China threatened to ban all Japanese seafood imports as retaliation for Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s comment, “If China were to deploy battleships and involve the use of force, I believe this could be deemed ‘a situation threatening Japan’s survival.”
"At this critical moment, we must support Japan to effectively stabilize the situation and stop the CCP’s (Chinese Communist Party) bullying," said Taiwan Foreign Minister Lin Chia-Lung.
While Japan doesn’t have an official relationship with Taiwan, the two are long-time allies with deep cultural and business ties. Japan is Taiwan’s third-largest trading partner, while Taiwan remains the fourth-largest for Japan.
