Pope Leo calls for unity in Iznik, Turkey | DW News

Pope Leo has called for unity alongside Christian leaders in Turkey, during the first foreign trip of his papacy.

Flanked by the head of the world’s Orthodox Christians and other senior clerics, Leo called for reconciliation. He urged Christians to reject the use of religion to justify violence or fanaticism. The Pope was speaking in Iznik, also known as Nicaea. 1700 years ago bishops gathered there to create the first uniform doctrine of the Christian faith.
