Bill 21: Provinces unite in support of notwithstanding clause

Wednesday marked day three of hearings into Quebec’s use of the notwithstanding clause to shield its controversial secularism law from legal challenge.

Bill 21 prohibits people from wearing religious symbols and clothing while working in the public service.

B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario argued to the Supreme Court, section 33 of the constitution was used correctly by Quebec.

And as Global’s David Akin reports, four other provinces went even further.
