An unexpected blast of heavy snow blanketed parts of Calgary on Wednesday, catching many locals by surprise.

The snow came fast and furious during the height of the morning rush hour, with many areas in the north part of the city reporting whiteout conditions.

Police reported over a hundred crashes because of the treacherous conditions.

Drew Stremick braved the snow to report on the surprise spring storm.
