Global National: March 14, 2026 | Trump calls for countries to help secure Strait of Hormuz

From Global News.

Tensions are mounting over the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which has choked off a fifth of the world’s oil supply. On Saturday, President Donald Trump renewed his call for nations to send warships to keep the strait open. Meanwhile, the U.S. has ramped up offensive operations against Iran, carrying out a strike on a critical oil hub off the coast of Iran. Candice Cole reports.

With the war on Iran sending global oil prices surging, the pressure is mounting on the Trump administration to end the conflict quickly. But as Eric Sorensen reports, how the conflict ends may be just as important as when it ends.

A pro-Palestinian demonstration for Al Quds Day outside the U.S. consulate in Toronto has gone ahead despite Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s efforts to block it. The day was declared 47 years ago by the Iranian regime in support of Palestinian people, but Jewish groups argue it glorifies terrorism and antisemitism. Sean O’Shea reports on the protest.

The surging price of oil due to the war on Iran, means jet fuel has become more expensive. Some airlines have already increased fares and others are warning that price hikes are on the way. Heather Yourex-West reports.
