Pope Leo has joined other religious leaders in Turkey with a message of reconciliation on his first trip abroad as pontiff. The pope took part in a service with Patiarch Bartholomew, the head of the Orthodox Church. The two signed a joint declaration to heal a nearly 1,000-year rift between their churches. The pontiff also joined Muslim leaders on a tour of Istanbul’s Blue Mosque. And Pope Leo later held a mass attended by tens of thousands in an arena in Istanbul.
