WATCH: PolitiFact fact-checks Hawley’s phone tap claims

From PBS NewsHour.

Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., on Tuesday claimed that the Biden administration’s FBI "tapped" the phones of some Republican senators during its investigation into 2020 election interference.

While the FBI did seek some basic phone log information from nine Republicans about the date and time of calls, the data did not include the content of the calls.

Experts say "wiretapping" involves real-time surveillance or recording of electronic conversations.

PolitiFact’s Ellen Hine explains why they rated Hawley’s claim as Mostly False.
