In a lighthearted moment Friday, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney shared a brief exchange with U.S. President Donald Trump, following the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw in Washington, D.C.

Carney said after Paraguay was placed in the same group as the U.S. during the team draw, he joked with Trump not to worry as, "These are just recommendations," adding that FIFA President Gianni Infantino did not find humour in his joke.

Carney also said that it would be raining in March in Vancouver, quickly noting he was joking and the weather would be beautiful in time for scheduled FIFA matches in the city.
