President Donald Trump’s attempt to increase his power by taking control of independent agencies comes before the Supreme Court on Dec. 8 in the second of at least four major cases on Trump’s expansive view of presidential authority the justices are considering this term.

Trump wants the court to overturn a 1935 decision limiting presidents’ ability to remove leaders of multi-member administrative agencies that could include the Federal Reserve and the Federal Trade Commission.
