“We have so many people who are going to be hurting from this — me included.” Theresa Hubert, a 55-year-old lifelong conservative from Texas, was diagnosed with cancer in July 2024. After years without health insurance, she now faces monthly premiums she can’t afford.
Republicans in Congress have yet to reach a deal on extending enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies, which expire at the end of the year. Without them, premiums are expected to more than double on average for roughly 22 million Americans.
