Farmers block the M7 motorway south of Lyon in southeastern France on Monday and prepared to spend the night at the site, bringing traffic to a standstill. Acting on a call from the Coordination Rurale union, protesters drove about 20 tractors onto both sides of the highway near Pierre-Bénite, fuelling a nationwide backlash over the government’s handling of lumpy skin disease and fears surrounding the proposed Mercosur trade agreement.
