Maia Kinney-Petrucha is a writer, performer, and social media influencer living in Massachusetts. She speaks with BI about being diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder at age 4.
With nearly 140,000 followers on TikTok, Kinney-Petrucha has spoken publicly about how OCD influences daily routines, social interactions, and academic work. She describes living with intrusive thoughts and compulsive behaviors that are "chronic" and “uncontrollable” in many respects.
Kinney-Petrucha co-wrote a play about her OCD called "I’m So OCD." The play premiered in New York City, followed by showings in Philadelphia and at the Edinburgh Fringe festival in Scotland.
In 2023, she completed a master’s in cognitive neuroscience at the CUNY Graduate Center in New York City, producing a thesis on how different forms of uncertainty shape threat-safety learning and physiological fear responses.
