Deep beneath the Antarctic ice, a unique underground vault has opened to preserve glacier ice collected from mountain ranges around the world. The first-of-its-kind sanctuary is destined to house an invaluable archive of fast-disappearing records of Earth’s climate for centuries to come. Ice cores are drilled from deep within glaciers and contain preserved material that can give indications of ancient weather patterns.
