Surfing entices Senegalese girls back to school | AFP

A group of around 20 girls are participating in a surf programme, designed to incentivise them to return to school.

Run by the organisation Black Girls Surf, the programme gives the girls the opportunity to participate in activities like fitness, meditation and surfing during the day, while receiving schooling at night.

Senegal’s primary school completion rate was just 60 percent for girls and 55 percent for boys in 2022, according to the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa.
