From Global News.
A drawdown on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations is underway in Minnesota, U.S. Border Czar Tom Homan has confirmed.
With ‘Operation Metro Surge’, U.S. President Donald Trump deployed roughly 3,000 armed immigration agents by the end of January to deport migrants particularly in Minneapolis – the state capital and biggest city.
“I have proposed, and President Trump has concurred, that this surge operations conclude,” Homan told reporters on Thursday. “In the next week, we’re going to deploy the officers here in detail back to their home stations or other areas that country are needed,” he added.
Homan’s comments come after months of demonstrations nationwide responding to aggressive immigration raids that resulted in the detainment of students and civilians, as well as the fatal shootings of U.S. citizens Alex Pretti and Renee Good by both ICE and U.S. Border Patrol agents in January.
Following major global backlash over these fatalities, then-commander-at-large for ICE Greg Bovino was removed from his post and Homan was put in his place.
