UK, allies say they’re convinced Kremlin critic Navalny was poisoned by frog toxin

From Global News.

The governments of Britain, France, Germany, Sweden and the Netherlands announced Saturday they are convinced that late Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny was poisoned with a lethal toxin in a penal colony two years ago.

That was the conclusion based on analyses of samples from Navalny, according to a statement issued by the five governments in London.

The statement also said that the analyses conclusively confirmed the presence of epibatidine, a toxin found in poison dart frogs in South America and not found naturally in Russia. The Russian government has denied any responsibility for Navalny’s death.

"Only the Russian state had the opportunity, the motive, the means to be able to do this while he was in prison….Because the Russian government has tried to silence its opponents," U.K. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said at the Munich Security Conference.
