A helicopter triggers an avalanche as a safety precaution in the Brevent area of the Chamonix ski resort. After heavy snow, the avalanche risk is very high in the French Alps. Three off-piste skiers died in Val d’Isere on 13 February after an avalanche. There have now been at least 25 avalanche deaths in France this winter season, with the majority occurring since January.
