Israel’s approval of a process to register land in the occupied West Bank as "state property" has drawn widespread condemnation from the European Union and Arab nations. The new regulation would restart the so-called "settlement of land title" procedures—frozen since the six-day war of 1967—which Palestinians describe as a form of de facto annexation. The EU has called on Israel to reverse the measure, warning that it is a "new escalation" and illegal under international law.
