Two people have died and three others are in critical condition after a shooting during a high school hockey game at an ice rink in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on Monday, authorities say.

The incident – which Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves said appeared to be “a targeted event” involving family – occurred at roughly 2:30 p.m. at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena, where a victim and the suspect both died. A second victim succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to the hospital.

Olin Lawrence, a high school hockey goalie, was on the ice when he heard “thirteen-ish” gunshots and rushed off the ice to his team’s locker room. Where those shots came from, he told reporters, he believed it was “someone in the stands.”

The tragic game was reportedly livestreamed and an investigation is underway.
