Protests erupt against Iranian government amid talks with US over nuclear dispute

From Global News.

Protests erupted outside the United Nations building in Geneva, Switzerland on Tuesday, as Iran and the U.S. held a second-round of high-stakes talks over their long-standing nuclear dispute.

Demonstrators spoke out in support of the son of Iran’s last Shah, who has said he wants to bring democracy to Iran, and carried banners calling for a “free Iran.” Flags used by Iran prior to the country’s 1979 revolution were flown by the demonstrators.

Iran’s foreign minister said Tuesday that while the path to an agreement has started, the two sides are not expected to reach a deal anytime soon.

As talks were underway in Switzerland, Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency reported that the Strait of Hormuz had been partially closed while Iran conducted military drills in the key international waterway.
