Atlanta airport officials hold briefing on flight cancelations ahead of massive winter storm

From USA TODAY.

The southeastern United States are preparing for a potentially historic winter storm heading into the region this weekend.

Rain and freezing temperatures could combine to blanket the South in ice, including Atlanta and the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

"Atlanta is facing an increasing risk of a major ice storm. In a worst-case scenario, travel at the Atlanta airport could be shut down for days," Dan DePodwin, vice president of forecasting for Accuweather, said. "Ice accretions on power lines and tree limbs could trigger widespread power outages over the weekend. Major travel disruptions are likely on highways across the region."
