Australia’s world-first social media legislation will come into effect on 10 December, banning under-16s from certain online media platforms and websites including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. The move has drawn a mix of reactions, both in Australia and abroad. Companies will face fines of Aus$49.5 million if they fail to take "reasonable steps" to comply with the new legislation.
