From Global News.
Speaking in Vancouver Tuesday, Canada’s Environment and Climate Change Minister Julie Dabrusin announced new regulations aimed at reducing the amount of methane released into the atmosphere.
The rules will impact much of the oil and gas sector, as well as dozens of landfills across Canada – helping to reduce emissions by more than 300 megatons by 2040.
The new regulations will give companies the option of two "compliance pathways." The first bans the intentional release of methane into the air, while the second allows operators to design their own approach to "methane reduction solutions.”
These regulations are expected to begin in January 2028.
