From Global News.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford is scheduled to hold a press conference at Queen’s Park in Toronto on Tuesday morning.
The provincial leader is expected to address U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to block the opening of the new Gordie Howe International Bridge that connects Windsor, Ont. and Detroit, Mich.
Trump called for immediate negotiations over the new trade route in a Truth Social post shared Monday, demanding ownership of “at least one half of this [Canadian] asset,” claiming that the U.S. should be “compensated for everything we have given” Canada.
Trump cited Ottawa’s recent trade agreement with China, Canadian tariff quotas for American dairy products, and Ontario’s ban on U.S. alcohol among his irritants with Canada, noting that the bridge is the latest example of Canada treating the U.S. “very unfairly for decades.”
