Eddie Carvery, social activist who dedicated his life to Africville dead at 79

From Global News.

Eddie Carvery, a long-time activist who worked tirelessly to preserve the legacy of Halifax’s former Black community of Africville, has died at the age of 79.

Carvery was born in Africville, Nova Scotia, and devoted his life to a decades-long pursuit to secure reparations for the former residents of the historic Black community.

It was demolished by the City of Halifax in the 1960s under the guise of urban renewal.

Carvery died Saturday following years of health issues. Global’s Ella MacDonald has more on his legacy of activism.
