Far-right Jose Antonio Kast elected Chile’s next president, defeating leftist Jara | DW News

Chile has elected its most right-wing president in more than three decades. Jose Antonio Kast, the Republican party leader, has promised mass expulsions of irregular migrants. He’s also vowed to cut taxes. Kast’s center-left rival Jeannette Jara, a member of the Communist party, has conceded defeat. Both candidates pledged to clamp down on crime.
