At a press conference on Saturday, U.S. Border Patrol and ICE said a federal agent fatally shot an armed man during a targeted immigration enforcement operation in Minneapolis.

Commander Gregory Bovino said the man, identified as Jose Huerta Chuma, approached agents with a handgun and resisted efforts to disarm him.

Authorities said the shooting was followed by the arrival of roughly 200 people who obstructed and assaulted law enforcement, prompting crowd-control measures.

The incident remains under investigation, with officials accusing local leaders of omitting key details about the presence of a firearm during earlier public statements.
