From Absolute History.
Timewatch examines the lives of former inmates featured in a 1980 documentary about Manchester’s notorious Strangeways prison. The program revisits men who were trapped in a cycle of crime, often due to violent and abusive pasts, and reveals their struggles with life after prison. It contrasts the brutal, overcrowded conditions of the past, which eventually led to the 1990 Strangeways riot, with the modernized, seemingly less harsh prison environment of today. Despite these changes, the rate of recidivism remains high, which brings into question the effectiveness of rehabilitation.
