ICE shooting update from DHS Secy. Noem remarks after woman fatally shot in Minneapolis

From USA TODAY.

Minnesota state officials on Wednesday urged the public to remain calm after a federal immigration agent shot and killed a 37-year-old woman in Minneapolis, quickly sparking protests in the city.

Gov. Tim Walz described the shooting as "totally avoidable" and urged people to demonstrate peacefully, recalling the protests in the wake of the killing of George Floyd, which occurred just blocks from where the federal agent opened fire.

"To Minnesotans I say this: I feel your anger. I’m angry," Walz said at a news conference hours after the shooting. "They want a show. We can’t give it to them."

The Department of Homeland Security said an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent "fired defensive shots" after a woman attempted to ram officials with her SUV. But Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and other officials disputed those claims, saying videos show the woman driving away from federal agents, not toward them.
