Man killed by US Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis was armed, “violently resisted,” commander says

From Global News.

The U.S. Border Patrol’s commander, Greg Bovino, has spoken out after a Minnesota man was shot dead by one of their agents Saturday morning in Minneapolis.

“As DHS [Department of Homeland Security] law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an illegal alien… an individual approached U.S. Border Patrol agents with a nine-millimetre semi-automatic handgun, Bovino said. “The agents attempted to disarm the individual, but he violently resisted, fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, a Border Patrol agent fired defensive shots,” he continued.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, and according to Bovino, the individual “wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.”
“If you obstruct a law enforcement officer… you are in violation of the law and will be arrested,” Bovino told reporters.

Seventy-five minutes late to the press conference, Bovino answered two questions, offering minimal details on the suspect’s firearm before promising that further “facts will come to light.”

The incident is the third shooting involving federal agents in Minneapolis in less than three weeks, following the Jan. 7 fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good by an ICE officer and a separate injury shooting earlier in the month.
