“Maybe we’re not mainstream yet”: South Asian community in BC express skepticism over RCMP apology

From Global News.

On Wednesday, the head of BC’s extortion task apologized after refusing to call ongoing extortions a "crisis". But for many in the South Asian community – living through the threats and violence – the damage was already done.

“We are here from the last 125 years plus, Canada is 159 years old, our elders built Canada along with other communities, when comments like this come, we feel like maybe we’re not mainstream yet," said Channel Punjabi Journalist Gurpreet Sahota.

Meanwhile, more responses from local and provincial governments came on Thursday, assuring extortion victims that work is underway to resolve the crisis. Global’s Travis Prasad reports.
