Parents of six children, Shawn and Destiny Jackson, recounted the moment their entire family was tear-gassed by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis, Minn. on Wednesday.
On their drive home from basketball practice, the family of seven got caught between protesters and ICE agents, before a cloud of tear gas enveloped their vehicle and forced the parents to get their children – between the ages of six months and 11 years old – out.
“The last person to get out the car was my infant child,” Destiny, the children’s mother said. “He was, like, lifeless, there was like foam or bubbles coming out of mouth. I had to give him mouth-to-mouth CPR, she added.
“It was like they didn’t have a care in the world for us,” Shawn said.
