‘No room’ for bitumen pipeline: Haida Nation president after pipeline motion vote | Power & Politics

The Liberal government voted against the Conservative pipeline motion on Tuesday and some B.C. Coastal First Nations leaders travelled to Ottawa to witness that vote. Gaagwiis Jason Alsop, president of the Haida Nation, tells Power & Politics that if the government had voted in favour of the motion, ‘it would have been taken as a step backwards and raised the level of concern.’ Christine Smith-Martin, CEO of the Coastal First Nations – Great Bear Initiative, also weighs in on the importance of attending the vote.
