“Nothing left”: Survivors dig through wreckage for bodies after deadly Sri Lanka landslide

From Global News.

After Cyclone Ditwah triggered a landslide in Sri Lanka, villagers gathered on Wednesday to search through the mud for the bodies of their loved ones.

"We got together later and looked, part of the village had disappeared. There was nothing left," said labourer Nisanka Kumarasiri.

"We knew we had lost everything. Everything was washed away by the floods. Now we are destitute. We will have to start from zero again," said repairman B.S. Wickremesinghe after the cyclone destroyed his shop.

About 356 people are still missing in Sri Lanka after the cyclone, which caused the country’s worst flooding in a decade, killing at least 474 people and affecting 1.2 million people, according to the government.
