Shooting in Arizona involving Border Patrol: Pima County Sheriff press conference offers updates

A person suffered major injuries after being shot during an incident involving the United States Border Patrol in Arizona the morning of Jan. 27.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said it responded to a shooting involving Border Patrol in Arivaca, an unincorporated community the southern part of the state about 10 miles north of the border with Mexico.

The Santa Rita Fire District confirmed the person was shot near milepost 15 of West Arivaca Road. The scene is just over 50 miles southwest of the city of Tucson. The person was taken to a hospital with critical injuries after the shooting, local officials confirmed.

Brooke A. Brennan, a U.S. Department of Justice spokesperson with the FBI Phoenix Field Office, said the incident took place at 7 a.m. local time and involved "an alleged assault on a federal officer."
