The leader of Spain’s Andalusia region, Juanma Moreno, wore blackface to portray Balthasar, one of the Three Wise Men, during a parade in Seville as part of the country’s traditional Epiphany celebrations.
 
There have been increased calls by anti-racism activists to ban the practice from traditional countrywide celebrations. Spain’s past includes colonies in regions that now form Equatorial Guinea and Western Sahara.
