Tim is exploring toys that date from 1991. Vintage you might say!

A smart package, which opens to reveal a pop-up frog wearing a crown. This is the Frog Prince or Frog King, a character that appeared in the1812 book ‘Grimm’s Fairy Tales’.

From the Sevi company in Italy, a wooden mechanical toy. A small wooden box with a fisherman standing on top holding a fishing rod… slide the top of the box and up pops – a fish! And it’s a whopper!!

An ash tray that contains a farm scene in the base. As Tim points out, you could use it as an ornament, even if you don’t smoke.

A bizarre foam toy of a character. It says secretary on the base. Sorry Tim, why did we buy this one?

A pen that has a party blower at the top. Tim thinks that maybe if you are writing an essay or something like that and need a bit of inspiration, just use the party blower and see if that helps.

Finally, a very unusual kaleidoscope. A cell containing different fluids is attached to a prism. Look into the prism and slowly turn the device, and amazing patterns appear. The prism expands the effect, since the images from the fluid cell are expanded as they appear on the walls of the prism, via the effect of total internal reflection. A nice piece of physics, but also a lovely effect. As Tim says, this is the only kaleidoscope he owns that works on this principle. Tim trips the light fantastic indeed!
